So Molli and I have always wanted to do a friend photo-shoot together…Candace helped make it happen! Candace is a local NWA photographer with an immense love and spirit for photography, NWA, people, and sunshine!!! She truly is a DOLL and I want YOU to meet her…Here we go!!
How long have you lived in Northwest Arkansas?
"I moved to this beautiful corner of the state in 2010, leaving my friends, family, job and life as I knew it back in Central Arkansas to continue my education at the University of Arkansas. Looking back, I can wholeheartedly say that joining the NWA community was one of the best decisions I ever made. Seven years later, I’ve met my best of friends and my husband here, adopted my pup from our local shelter and have shelter and have put my roots down in hopes to stay for as long as possible."
What is your favorite part about living in Northwest Arkansas?
"Northwest Arkansas is like no other community. The people are passionate, driven and supportive. The town is beaming with artistic flare, amazing culinary experiences and incredible small businesses. What more could a girl ask for? I can always count on adventure and unique experiences in NWA."
What is your favorite part about being a photographer?
"I am about 90% type A, but the other 10% of me is a overwhelmingly strong type B. This little 10% sliver is where my artistic side thrives like wildfire. I remember being exactly like this even as a child. At a young age I'd dream up make-believe businesses, draw out procedures and enlist my friends to play along as my employees or customers, but one of my most favorite parts about dreaming up those businesses was creating a vision. I enjoyed expressing my visions through drawings, slogans and magazine advertisements in a creative way and as I got older those visions developed into the desire to be captured through photography. I spent every penny of my allowance for months to buy a hot pink coolpix point and shoot camera. It was history from there. Since then, my passion and interest in photography has grown greater and greater. Now, years later, having invested in my passion I have developed a desire not only to be a photographer, but to connect with other individuals through visual storytelling. Capturing moments and sharing stories that will last them a lifetime. Now that is my favorite part about being a photographer."
Give me a glimpse into the favorite shoot you've ever done?
"Every photo shoot I embark on is unique in it's own way, but I'll never forget my first paid shoot. Still my favorite thus far. I arrived on location a few hours ahead of time to scout out my key spots. testing the lighting, angles and path we would take to transition from one spot to the next. I got back in my car with about 30 minutes to spare before my client arrived. I sat there scrolling through my mood boards, heart racing and giving myself a pep talk. "Ok, Candace. This is it. You can't screw this up. Remember, you are a pro at this, show them what you've got." The client arrived, I put on my game face and we rocked that shoot together. I remember getting back in the car after the shoot, scrolling through the photos as fast as I could evaluate my work. Praying that I had nailed focus on at least SOME of the photos. I rush of relief and accomplishment flooded over me. I had done it. I had conquered my very first shoot and I craved more. This was my favorite shoot because it pushed be to stick my head out as an artist, I learned about myself as a photographer and it gave me a feeling that I want to experience after every single one of my future shoots."
What would you consider your photography style?
"As an artist it’s hard to define one specific style as my own because I strive to capture emotion through my photography. Sometimes that's dark and moody and other times its light and fun. I enjoy the thrill of exploring different styles that suit the vibe I am trying to achieve. By NOT putting a box around myself...that I can never step out of, allows me to have full expression and creativity. Expect my work to continue to showcase a wide variety of styles in the future."
I truly think that from these answers to these simple questions, it gives such an insight and feel for who she is! She was so encouraging, so uplifting, made Molli and I feel so beautiful and comfortable all while having a photo-shoot in what felt like 150 degree weather and feeling like we were actually melting. Despite the heat, Candace did such an amazing job of capturing these photos and Molli and I’s friendship. One of my favorite aspects of this shoot was how amazing the location we were at was. WE shot at Westwood Gardens off of Weddington in Fayetteville. I had never been there but omg was it drop dead GORGEOUS. Candace captured us while also being able to show off the beautiful place that we were at. The greenhouse was simply drop dead gorgeous and I feel like these pictures would make anyone want to visit there! We had so much fun together and I would absolutely recommend anyone looking for photos of any kind to give her a call! Also, her Instagram grid is adorable and inspirational so go give it a follow :)
